West Dallas residents can shop for free fresh food at community fair on Saturday

Residents in West Dallas can shop for free fresh food and other local goods on Saturday at the city’s first food fair.
Dallas’ Environmental Commissioners, along with the Office of Community Care, will host the event on Saturday from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. at the West Dallas Multipurpose Center.
The fair is designed to promote healthy food options, distribute fresh foods and demonstrate cooking with new recipes and techniques. The family friendly fair will also feature activities for kids.
Providers will include a range of producers and distributors, as well as local growers and producers who sell their produce at community markets.

The West Dallas community was chosen to host the first food access fair as the community has a variety of challenges associated with access to fresh foods, including being in an area recognized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as having low food access, according to the city.
Environmental Commissioners, including Vice Chairperson Esther Villarreal, will be at the event, as will community growers and producers, including Restorative Farms, Joppy Momma’s, and organizations that distribute fresh food to the community, including the North Texas Food Bank and Brother Bill’s Helping Hand.
No registration is required. The fair is Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the West Dallas Multipurpose Center on 2828 Fish Trap Road, Dallas, TX 75212.
